Calm amid Cacophony

This one is the photograph used as reference This is the completed 12" x 14" oil painting.

STAGES:

The above show the stages I went through to paint this commission. First I completed a tonal sketch with pencil on a piece of paper. A few days later, I painted the basic marks onto a 12" x 14" canvas; I used burnt sienna and burnt umber for this underpainting. The next stage was to block in all the major shapes; to do this I used alizarin crimson, cobalt blue, yellow ochre, indian yellow, raw umber and white. The final stage was a matter of fine-tuning (this fourth photograph was taken with insufficient light. I will photograph it again.) I changed the lighting a bit to make it come from the upper right hand side a bit more.
