The Story - by Lalita
I was asked to describe my artistic process at the opening of an FCA juried show at the Maple Ridge Art Gallery, where this painting won "Best in Show". Though I did not mention anything about my childhood, a man who had been listening intently asked me if I grew up around & enjoyed fields.
“Yes!” I replied, “how can you tell?”  He answered “From your painting”.  Go figure.

THE PROCESS:

I began this painting using a palette knife and a limited palette of 5 colours.  I am very much enjoying this painting, and look forward to how it'll look in the end (sometimes it's as much a surprise to me as it is to anyone else...things don't always go according to "plan"...and at times I find I get my best results when I paint from my "gutt" instead of my "head").

 Step #2

Step #3 - Canadian Field a work in progress
I have added more paint & the next step will be to scrape away to reveal the complexity underneath.

Step #4 - Canadian Field a work in progress
Needed more paint...

Step #5 - Fine tuning...and it's complete!

This painting won "Best in Show" at the FCA juried show at the Maple Ridge Art Gallery,
which was on display at The Act in Maple Ridge until Nov. 4th, 2006
