Artist's Biography
Lalita Hamill, AFCA, is an emerging professional artist whose representational artwork is quickly becoming recognized as highly skilled, innovative, and touching. It was a car accident that propelled her six years ago to leave her position managing a recreation centre and pursue her passion as a visual artist and instructor, which is now her permanent career.
Lalita has an Honours degree in Philosophy and is artistically primarily self-taught. While Lalita specializes in portraiture, landscapes and architectural renderings, she is also becoming well known for her versatility; she is skilled at using and teaching a wide range of media in a variety of styles and subjects.
“I am intrigued”, she states, “by composition and pattern. I am fascinated with understanding and capturing the human spirit, inspired by the challenge of a difficult piece, and propelled by the unknown.”
Lalita lives with her husband and their three young daughters in Langley, BC.
Lalita has won numerous awards for her community contributions and academic achievements. Her most recent are the Derek East Award for Business Excellence with respect to Community Contributions, as well as the honour of being nominated for the "Women Of Excellence-2005" awards in Langley, in the Arts & Culture category
Groups Lalita is actively involved with:
Lalita has taught children and adults in a variety of subjects for over eighteen years. She is currently booking for January 2011. Please return to the home page of this site and click on "future classes" for more information.
Current projects:
Along with teaching, Lalita is working on the "works in progress" paintings you see on this site, the free art critique nights, architectural renderings, and her Philosophical Art. She has a variety of exhibitions coming up and is painting as often as possible.
Regarding her significant AFCA status with the Federation of Canadian Artists (in the same month that their second daughter was born), Lalita's husband says:
"It seems that life is a series of celbrations! I want to share with you a heart-felt congratulations to Lalita. She's worked hard over the last few years to achieve her "AFCA" standing with the Federation of Canadian Artists. The essence of this is the recognition from senior Canadian artists that you have achieved a ligh level of qulaity in your work. Needless to say, this accreditation is hard to achieve. But Lalita, balancing a career in one hand and a family in another, has achieved it on her fist time "at bat". A testament to her hard work and skills. Congratulations Lalita. Your loving husband, Patrick"
Artist's VisionI wanted to take this moment to say "Welcome!" and thank you for visiting this website. I am enthralled to be able to say that I have an artistic vision that has never (as far as I have researched) been pursued before...it involves combining Philosophy & Art together in a way that will stimulate people emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.
There seems to be a division between what you see on this website and what I plan to do over my life time. On the one hand, as you see here, I work with subjects that we can perceive, such as portraits, illustrations, and architecture. This is a small portion of the thousands of ideas I have...and at times am plagued with...as well as a deep curiosity about how to use light, form, colour, texture, and subject matter in order to stimulate and engage a viewer such as yourself.
On the other hand, I am a Philosopher. I have a desire to understand and explore some of the key philosophical questions and concepts that have been discussed in written and verbal form for centuries: morality, space, time, matter, beauty, soul, mind & body, truth...all of the key elements that define us and affect our daily life, but we can't perceive them.
That is the left-hand side of my brain talking. The right-hand side kicks in artistically...and my artistic future depends on linking these two sides together and putting the results onto canvas.
I hope you enjoy this site. If you have any comments or questions, please email me at: lalita@hamillstudios.ca or call me at 604-882-1214.
I invite you to join me on my artistic journey for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Lalita Hamill
